A Banksy in Manchester
So apparently the council have uncovered a Banksy on Tib Street on the electrical sub station that until today was covered in some weird dead green plants (an old council idea to make it seem green!!!), anyway they finally cleared off the dead plants and uncovered a Banksy stencil underneath (read the full story here). Now the council are undecided whether to paint over it or not
Now I like most of Banksy's work, and think he's asked a lot of questions with his art, and definately increased the profile of street art generally. But really, this is just shit, it's not a great piece anyway and it's in really bad condition. Now I'm sure the council will probably leave it (maybe even re-touch it!!!) and try and turn it into a tourist attraction!!. Somebody should probably give Robbo a shout and get him to retouch it (google Banksy versus Robbo).

The Ritual Project
Just found this really interesting film about sign/billboard painters in New York. Yeah they're not all made using vinyl printouts!!!!, seems to be a dying art the actual painting of adverts as opposed to just printing something out and attaching it to the side of a building.
I've always been fascinated with the old faded signs you see painted on the side of buildings, there used to be loads in Blackpool but they are slowly getting painted over - I always meant to take photos of the ones I had seen (but then forgot), anyway watch this film about the people who still paint adverts
There's something that appeals to me in having an advert painted that takes maybe 30 hours as opposed to getting a big vinyl sign put up that might take about 1 hour.

Forewards by Misha Hollenbach
So I have this slight obsession with Melbourne label Perks and Mini, anyway one half of the duo that is PAM - Misha Hollenbach has an exhibition - it's in Melbourne though so unless your lucky enough to live there you'll just have to read about it here!!!!!

Forewards by Misha Hollenbach - May 14 to June 5, 2010
Utopian Slumps, Ground Floor, 33 Guildford Lane Melbourne
Utopian Slumps is pleased to announce the opening of For ewards by represented artist Misha Hollenbach on Thursday 13 May 2010.
Hollenbach’s practice explores methods of merging contemporary culture with tribalism. Working across the mediums of collage, screenprinting, sculpture and installation, his work is often driven by carnal desire and a return to the basis of human existence: evidenced by his yoga/sex collages, or his explorations of abject bodily functions. Gesturing towards the legacy of Dadaism, Hollenbach is compelled to collect images and found objects, reconfiguring them as art objects to create new meanings through random association.
Forewards will present a new series of work from Hollenbach merging various cultures and influences. Subverting traditional forms of portraiture, his photographic prints are, like Hoffman’s discovery of LSD, formed from happy accidents, and accompanied by a series of single edition photocollages that invert and collapse human faces with readymade objects and contrasting textures. Additionally, Hollenbach’s ceramic and neon sculptures constructed through a process of automation reflect his interest in making the everyday object irreverent by imbuing it with new associational values.
As one half of the clothing label and publishing inc. PAM, and the driving force behind art/music super group THE CHANGES, Hollenbach has exhibited nationally and internationally, touring Italy during Milan Design Week at such venues as Mu Gallery, as well as Eindhoven, The Netherlands; V1 Gallery, Copenhagen; and Alleged Gallery and Deitch Projects, New York. After exhibiting collaboratively for a number of years, Hollenbach has recently embarked on a solo career. In 2009, this included two solo exhibitions, Indispensable Duties at Y3K Gallery, Melbourne, and STOOL at Black & Blue, Sydney; and also two collaborative exhibitions with Peter Sutherland: SNAP!, at Gallery Target and REAGGEAE, at Utrecht Gallery, Japan.

Me&Yu Books 001
We've decided to start publishing the occasional art book/fanzine, as we think it's quite an interesting idea for a fashion label to produce books. we will also be releasing a limited edition printed copy in the next few weeks, which will be available online.

Colabs and more handmade stuff
I was just watching a good interview/docu on Wood Wood (see below), in it they talk about colabs and how it seems every streetwear label is now doing them - almost as if it's what you have to do.
In many ways they kind of seem boring now, go on hypebeast or streetthing and it all seems to be collaborations, and although you do get some interesting stuff oyu also get some shit, that just makes you think why bother??.
Anyway this got me thinking, and I've decided to do a series of unofficial colabs which i will post on here.
So are we against them???? not sure but if you want to do one let us know!!!!
this weekend we made up a few samples of new products, we're going to be adding a few more handmade items to our range, so we will have more handmade t's as well as the slouch jeans seen above, we should also be adding a couple of handmade and handprinted dresses very soon.

Exciting A/W 2010/11 stuff
We're in the process of working on our A/W 10/11 range - which at this stage is titled - 'Tales of the Unexpected'. As well as our normal range of t's, sweats, vests and dresses, next season we will be producing a small capsule collection of handmade t-shirts that will be made from 100% organic jersey fabric which has be woven in the UK (Leicester to be exact)
so that means for the first time we will be offering t-shirts handmade and handprinted in Manchester from UK produced organic fabric - this has been an aim of ours since we started and now it's going to happen!!!!!
We're also experimenting with screenprinting photo art on garments for this new collection. Screenprinting photographs to a good quality is a difficult process but hopefully we will have mastered it soon!!!! (we do need a new piece of glass though!!!. Will post more pics as we make the t's.

New Stock @ Double Party Warehouse Party
We've just finished a couple of rails of new stock in time for the Double Warehouse Party at Islington Mill, where we'll be giving 20% off on the night. We're hosting the upstairs room and as well as our pop-up stall, there will be a dress-up photobooth, face painting, t-shirt tombola all accompanied by the Me&Yu dj's (well Gordon) playing everything from hip hop to piano house. See you there???
10th March 2010, 7.15pm
My day in pics and other random things
Pretty exciting pics!!!, this is our new dryer which will speed up our work rate (so no more working through the night) by drying all the prints, rather than us having to wait for them, it will also mean we completely avoid those occasional times when the print isn't cured properly and fades. The top pic is the electricity supply we were waiting to have fitted so we can use the machine.
yes we still put our own swingers together!!
probably the biggest t-shirt in the world!! this is an amazing 6XL tshirt (from sleeve to sleeve is the same length as from my feet to my neck and I'm 6ft) anyway they make amazing oversize dresses so we printed some with a wolf design - which looks really cool. I only picked the wolf design because as I put the t's on my print table I had to move some screens and that was one of them.
9th March 2010, 11.22pm

New Season Designs!!! - Take a Trip
A selection of new designs are online NOW we will be adding more over the next few weeks, click on the image to view

This Spring Summer Me&Yu “Takes a Trip” with mind-bending and fantastical prints, inspired by 60’s graphics and psychedelia, 80’s rave flyers, Alice in Wonderland and other trippy tales. It’s all about losing your mind in spectacular fashion!
All the designs have crazy titles like “The Extravagant Highs of The Psychedelic Orchid”, “Magic Eye” and “Expand Your Mind” and every design tells a story. As with all Me&Yu designs the collection features a mixture of hand drawn illustrations, texts and photo montage transfers. This season introduces new styles, such as the raw edge vest, hoodie dress and hand printed tunic dress, which will sit alongside the classic range you know and love. With a kaleidoscope of colours available, the ever popular greys and whites are complimented with kiwi green, sunshine yellow and other muted brights - the perfect palette for a long hot Summer full of “Cosmic Kittens of Karma” and psychedelic "Mind Trips".

Street Style
I keep forgetting to upload the most recent street style photos by jensen, anyway here they are.
'Well due to the snow and misbehaving weather, I wouldn’t really say this month’s pictures are ‘street’ style pictures. More indoor pictures... I have been indoors snapping some of Me& Yu’s quirky customers and been to some underground Manchester nights to get involved with that scenes style,, due to cold weather thought it would be good to capture some of the finest snow fighting gear. Doc martens and fur everywhere.'
A fablously dressed Me& Yu customer here, wearing a fur coat fablously. It always a good idea to wear a belt with a lonf fur coat.OIne, it defines your waist two, it keeps it fastened if you coat dosent have any buttons. This caramel and green combo is mouth watering!
Doc Martens. Nice for your feet, nice for your eyes
Im fur mad this month, so is she. This hat and coat combo is perfect for keeping you warm. It dosen’t look Ott because the fur is in different colours . Remember this tip. If your worried about looking beasty in your fur coat (excuse the pun ) get your legs out, as it balances it out.
super russian fur hat looking swish with the shiny leather coat, but how good with it look with the me & yu coat in the back...ummph. it coat is quilted aswel!!
I love it when I’m out spotting for Me & Yu and I spot someone wearing Me & Yu. Wearing the Me and Yu current season skirt with clashing doc Martens and a vintage top is a style you have got steal. YUM
More grey black and white here and loving the purple shoes as a bright addition, these wooly burglar hats are a must for men currently so get involved
m loving this print tee on the right. The print is unusually lower than usual, and works really well. Also is grey black and white the new trend for men?!
Is this black and grey again?! YES! Great hat and illustrated tee.
Loving these lace sleeves with floaty rara skirt. here, lace is currently big feature in the up and coming ’I heart Molly’ Me & YU range so be sure to check it out
22nd February 2010, 12.23pm
Books - you should read!!
I tend to blog about music and us on here so i thought as I'm reading a bit more at the moment I should recommend some books
I definately advise you to read anything by Alan Warner, I just finished his book 'and the worms will carry me home' so then decided to re-read all his other books. He first came to prominence around the time of Irvine Welsh and Trainspotting (the book not the film) but I always found his work to be a bit more interesting than Welsh's (I do love all Irvine Welsh's books though) anyway go to the library and start reading!!
21st February 2010, 2.32pm
Busy week and new stock

Those of you that have been in our Afflecks store this week will have noticed we have a couple of new designs - Cosmic Kitten and The Girl on a Fur Skin Rug - they are going down really well and we hope to have them online eithe rtoday or tomorrow. We will also have some more new designs out at the end of the weeek, we're staggering the introduction of new designs over the next few weeks.
Also this week we have a few exciting things happening - Tuesday we go to pick up a new piece of machinery in Worcester (??), probably not too exciting for you but for us it is. It's a tunnel dryer which is basically a more efficient way to dry the ink on the t's after they have been printed. This not only means we can dry things quicker but also the print will last longer, not fade as much and we will avoid those occasional cases of print fading after washing.
After the trip to Worcester we have another trip down to London for a meeting with River Island and another big retailer - exciting times!!.

Margin Tradeshow, Mr Wingate
We've been a bit quite on the blogging front as we've been down at the Margin Tradeshow in central London, it was a great event and we meet lots of key buyers and bloggers. We also met the lovely Sam Wingate of Mr Wingate fame, alot of the other brands there were your normal 'streetwear' t-shirt brands with nice machine screen printed graphics so it was nice to meet a fellow 'hand printer'. Check out his site

Double Magazine

The new issue of Double Magazine is online now, if you've not read it before click on the image and have a look.
10th February 2010, 8.57pm
Massive Attack
Massive Attack have always been a band that I like but don't really listen to alot, but I have to say the artwork for their new album is amazing. I also like the fact that the London Undeground have refused to display their posters because they look too much like 'street art', they said if the edges were sharpened and the paint drips removed they might allow them!!!!!!

So I don't mean to go on about VBS.tv (Vice internet tv channel) but you should really watch the Vice guide to Liberia - it is pretty amazing/shocking/scary/educational/pretty much every emotion. Seriously it's a million times better than 'my fat child with 10 legs' or whatever channel 4 tries to pass of as documentary film.

Lady Sovereign
Here's a pic of Lady Sovereign and Katya - and the guy in the middle is wearing a Me&Yu vest, and we're pretty sure the glassses sov has on are from our shop (with the lenses taken out)

Vic Reeves
So yesterday we got a belated Christmas present, and it was Vic Reeves Book of Knowledge, which I have to say is pretty much the best book I've ever seen. Now obviously we all know Vic Reeves as a comedian, and I remember the silly invention drawings he used to do on the big night out, and I did have a vague recollection that he painted, but this book made me realise what a pretty amazing artist he is - and he makes you laugh at the same time!!! I really would recommend buying it - also click on the images to see some of his artworks

Miss Bugs
Before I remembered about the Vic reeves book I was searching on some of my favourite blogs for something to show you and I came across Miss Bugs on the Wooster Collective Site the work blew me away -so have a look
